Nine questions that matter more than price.

Proposals for an information system look alike on paper. These are the questions where they start to differ. Ask them of us and of anyone else.

Who writes the spec, and who builds the system?If they aren't the same people, ask how context is handed over. In a regulated environment, all the context can't be handed over in a single meeting.

What happens to the data if we end the engagement?Ask for a documented data schema and an export in a machine-readable format. For some entities, DORA also requires a formal exit plan.

How does the replacement work without the company stopping?“We'll deploy on the weekend” is a warning sign. Ask about parallel running and about where you can fall back if something goes wrong.

Is history migrated, or only the current state?And how will you verify the migration is correct too, not just the supplier.

How is traceability of changes handled?Who changed what and when. An audit trail can't be added retroactively. Either it's in the data model from the start, or it will be missing entirely until the architecture is rewritten.

Which standards can the supplier implement in a system?Not just list them. Ask about a specific project where they did it, and whether the client actually passed certification.

How long has the oldest system the supplier built been running?This one number says more about longevity than a list of technologies.

Does the supplier take a commission for recommending third parties?If so, they will never tell you honestly whether to build or buy.

Will the supplier tell you not to build it?If they can't answer with an example, they probably won't.

How we answer them

The same questions, our answers. No generalities.

Spec and build

The same people write it and build it. The project has an analyst and architect, developers, and operations people. And they are the same people from the spec through live operation. We have no sales layer.

Data on exit

You get the documented data schema and a data export whether we stay or not. Whether regulation requires it or not.

Replacement in live operation

In parts, with the old and new systems running in parallel. The old system is switched off last. At Broker Consulting, it was a large real-estate division in a sensitive field.

Migrating history

History included. Before cut-over, a reconciliation of old and new data runs, and you see the differences, not just us.

Standards

ISO/ČSN 27001, ISO 13485, MDR under Regulation (EU) 2017/745, AML under Act No. 253/2008 Coll., and GDPR under Regulation (EU) 2016/679. We brought the client Dr.Digital to ISO/ČSN 27001 certification and assisted with the re-audit.

Longevity and warranty

The oldest system we built is in its twelfth year of operation. We give a six-month warranty on delivered work, followed by further support and development.

Price
How much will it cost?We state the price after the analysis; before that it's only an indicative estimate. Analyzing the existing system and planning the replacement takes two to six weeks and is a standalone deliverable that has a price even if you go no further.
Time
How soon will we see a first result?For a system replacement, the first replaced part in live operation within two to six months. For a new product, a first version in customers' hands within three to five months.
Certification
Do you hold a certification as a supplier?We implement standards at our clients', in their products, systems, and processes. As a rule, the requirement for certification lies with a specific service, process, or company, and a supplier's certification neither simplifies nor replaces that process. If you need a certified supplier for your own audit, tell us.
Operation
Can we run the system ourselves?Yes. You get the documented schema, documentation, and a data export. We build things to last without us.
AI
Do you send client data to AI tools?No, without the client's explicit consent we do not send their data to any AI. We use AI where it makes sense, and every output is validated by a person who is accountable for it.
Scope
Do you take small jobs?Not if it's a one-off template tweak or a junior for six months. On that kind of work we can't deliver a result that would show our real value.
